Sorcerer is a simple yet powerful source
based distribution for advanced systems administration. The
package management system of Sorcerer is called sorcery. Sorcery
is comprised of modular, easily modified, command line and
menu driven BASH scripts. A system administrator, SA, wielding
sorcery can keep FHS 2.2 complaint Sorcerer boxes current
with the latest stable software releases.
Sorcerer offers most of the features
of modern GNU/Linux distributions. There is a menu driven
installer on the Installation / Rescue CD image simplifes
the creation of a new box. After installation sorcery provides
both command line and menu driven tools for package management.
Software installed by sorcery, with
few exceptions, are the authors' latest stable release. Compiling
software with the optimizations, options, and architecture
that the SA specifies is how a Sorcerer box achieves excellent
run-time performance. Sorcery can discover and automatically
fix broken library dependencies caused by an upgrade or removal
of a library. As new sources become available sorcery need
only download the difference between the latest sources and
the current source. Thus it provides upgrades to new software
at a cost of downloading which is signficiantly less than
any other distribution.
Nearly every aspect of sorcery is configurable.
All features can be enabled and disabled.
