SAMBA is very well integrated in the Desktop, i.e. users can launch file/folder sharing just by the right click of their mouse button. They can also browse and access other's (Members of Windows NT domain or member of Elx group) shares in the network by clicking on Network Neighborhood icon. Elx comes pre configured to become a member of any Win NT domain, so users have to do literally no configurations whatsoever. ... ELX understands windows messaging protocol (Winpopup) so Windows can never discriminate between ELX and any other Windows client. In fact, ELX in some cases beats Windows in its own game. You'd discover that just after the installation of ELX it will smartly discover Windows PDC and will become an active part of the network while a Windows client needs to be configured individually and carefully to do the same. ELX comes with WINE*, which enables it to run a large variety of Windows .exe programs so you need not to search for a windows machine everytime someone sends you a product presentation created in Flash as an 'exclusive' executable program for windows. ELX will play it with full audio and video support. ELX uses Openoffice as its default office suite, powerful enough to create or edit MS Office file formats, including doc, xls or ppt. besides having a set of powerful applications to create professional and impressive office documents. less user intervention ... Default installation option is preset to install most useful applications without bothering user with details of partitioning and selection of applications while, custom option provides a very fine degree of control. Both options are extremely user friendly and do not assume any previous Linux knowledge. Custom installation gives freedom and flexibility in many ways. The custom installation option lets you pick appropriate package groups to install, and also lets you select the partitions and their sizes with a user friendly partition screen. Provision for changing the boot menu option is also available. Laptop installation option is useful for installation on laptops. Installation process detects local MS Windows file systems and mounts them. Package grouping to pick appropriate packages to install. Installation time network configuration will let you share and access shared file systems in the LAN from both ELX systems and MS Windows computers. ELX installation process will automatically detect the other OS's installed and create appropriate menu options to boot. "Hyper linked" context sensitive online help.
